- This temporary page has been modified to approximate the look of the final site, which is still under construction.
- I seem to have encoded some of the video files without enabling progressive downloads - oops! If you click a link to watch a movie, and it seems to sit at a "Q" logo forever, just be patient - it will play eventually. I will have this fixed by the time the final site goes live.
Welcome! (Real website coming "soon")
This is the online home of movies by Mike Hanley, an undergraduate Film student at Syracuse University. Until the final site is complete, this page wil serve as a portal to Quicktime movies of my work so far (mostly from High School).
NOTE: The video files on this site require Apple Quicktime 7.0 or higher to view. Windows users who do not want iTunes can use the standalone installer. Linux users can use VLC Player, although the H.264 video support in that program is still experimental.
The North Hills Pictures
My largest collection of projects yet, and most likely the main reason you're here. These four shorts were made in the videomaking classes at North Hills High School. The last three use music by Justin R. Durban. I'll have more to say about these on the final site.
Pursued (2004) - View Poster - Watch Movie (16.7 MB)
The Vase (2004) - View Poster - Watch Movie (23.3 MB)
Dead Line (2005) - View Poster - Watch Movie (17.2 MB)
NH Pictures - Trailer Project
An ongoing learning experience, this is my attempt to cut together various styles of trailers for my compilation "The North Hills Pictures." As I have a good deal of footage to work with from these four shorts, it makes for some interesting results.
Shown on the television morning announcements at my school to promote the fact that I would be burning DVD-R's of my movies for whoever wanted them. Made before I had even seen "Requiem for a Dream," so I was just using the music because I thought it was cool in the "LOTR - The Two Towers" trailer. Which, of course, it was.
NH Pics - "Sin City" Style (2005) - Watch Trailer (6.9 MB)
Just for fun. Actually, this turned out to be one of the best editing-to-music jobs I've done. I can't help it if the instrumental version of "Cells" is just easy to cut to!
Other Projects
Minor stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else.
I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, but I loved all the other forms of Douglas Adams' genius, so a fitting fan-made trailer was in order. I used footage from the teaser and first theatrical trailer, as well as some audio from the original BBC radio series.
Saber VFX Test - Watch VIdeo (3.5 MB)
Who doesn't love light sabers? A friend of mine wants to make a Star Wars fanfilm next summer. We'll see what happens...
"Slither" TV Spot - Watch Video (1.7 MB)
My entry for the "Slug It Out" TV Spot contest held to promote Universal's horror/comedy "Slither." My first attempt at this type of ad format.
